Hard-stone Trees

Two Chinese hard-stone trees from the early 20th century, acquired by Durham University Oriental Museum in 1961. The trees were in poor condition prior to treatment- the large tree was detached from its pot, the large pot had a massive crack with yellowing adhesive that was visually distracting, the stones were dirty, the silk was fraying, petals and other elements were missing, and the flowers had become misshapen. All of these issues were addressed in order to stabilise the trees, restore their aesthetic value, and make them suitable for display. They are now currently on display in the Oriental Museum.
